30 year Montecito resident Dorene White will paint from her brother’s boat, her kayak, on the islands, and anywhere there’s nature. A member and past President of SCAPE (Southern California Artists Painting for the Environment) with over 150 talented artists dedicated to the local environment, complemented by Santa Barbara County’s culture and art. “I’ve always been doing some art throughout my life but obsessed for about 15 years”, Dorene explained while juggling paddles, oils and brush to canvas in the harbor recently. She has gone out on Sea Landing boats to the Channel islands with David Gallup and 20 artists at a time for 5 day trips, where she fell in love with painting from her kayak, especially cave areas around Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands. Over the years, she got to know many fishermen who were also strongly attached to the ocean and the environment.

Dorene can be seen painting on land and sea, usually with her dog Gracie nearby. But being close to home with her husband Gil, her 3 step children and 8 grandchildren tops the list. Come see her work, and all the extraordinary artists’ paintings, benefitting the amazing:
