Learn to make a vibrant painting using composition, light, value, and color with award-winning California colorist, Kathleen Elsey. Practice simplifying and organizing those complex landscapes that you’ve always wanted to paint. We’ll practice looking more clearly to see shapes and colors before us. You’ll get tips to work the paint thick and wet through demonstrations, discussions and lots of individual instruction. We’ll paint outdoors 2 days (weather permitting) and in the studio one day. In the case of inclement weather, we’ll paint interior-scapes and still life in the studio or from the photos you bring.

A wild and wonderful colorist, Kathleen’s canvases vibrate with vitality and color. She’s won many awards including “Best of Oil or Acrylic Painting” at the prestigious 2005 Carmel Plein Air Festival and first place in the 2005 International Society of Acrylic Painters Exhibition. She is a founding member of En Couleur, a group of seven California Colorists, a signature member of the American Impressionist Society and a member of the National Association of Women Artists.

Kathleen Elsey relocated to Santa Barbara in 2004. Her vibrant landscapes, still lifes, and interior-scapes can be seen in collections and exhibitions internationally. She is represented by Nancy Dodds Gallery in Carmel, William Lester Gallery in Pte. Reyes Station, California, Lagerquist Gallery in Atlanta  and Gallery Patou in Ft. Lauderdale. Cancellations made at least one month in advance of the workshop will receive a full refund less $50 administration fee. Thereafter your tuition will be refunded only if your place can be filled.
