Workshops(Click here to return to main workshops menu) Announcing a new SCAPE workshop by Gay Faulkenberry
"Plein Air Attitude"Monday through Thursday, November 6-9, 2006
The focus of this plein air workshop will be understanding the basic fundamentals in creating a successful painting, working on how light affects the subject and how to achieve that illusion through a better understanding of composition, values, color and their proper relationships. By close observation and comparisons, the student will leave with a stronger knowledge of painting plein air. The general format will be a week of small size studies rather than finished paintings. Instructor demos and slide demonstrations will be included. Individual critiques will also be conducted throughout the week. One day will be a free day for students to pick their own subjects and work at their own pace with a group critique at the end of the day. She will work with each student individually on his/her own level, but mastery of good drawing skills is paramount. This oil painting workshop will be geared towards intermediate to advanced artists. Born in Stillwater, Oklahoma and raised throughout the West, Gay Faulkenberry grew up in an artistic family and was encouraged at an early age to pursue her art. She studied art at Southwestern State University and Oklahoma State University but it wasn’t until a trip to Taos, New Mexico in 1978 that Gay took a more serious direction to pursuing a fine art career. Her in-depth training came from workshops where she studied with noted artists Sergei Bongart, Ray Vinella, Ned Jacob and Mark Daily. Her work is found in many private and corporation collections and featured in numerous art publications. She has received numerous awards of excellence, the most prestigious being the Best Landscape Award at the Oil Painters of America Show in Chicago. Her subject matter includes landscape, still life, floral, and interiors. Gay teaches workshops and continues painting trips throughout the United States and various regions of France, Belgium and Italy. “My work is a reflection of a lifelong passion for art, painting, color, and for nature itself. I express my feelings on canvas in order to share them with others. I’ve always felt that my best expressions happen when I’m “on location” painting quickly and capturing the essence of a subject, the mood of a time and place. Capturing the magic of nature is the challenge.” Note: Class is limited to 15 participants. You will be enrolled in the order in which your check is received. Cancellations made at least one month before the workshop begins will receive a full refund less $50; thereafter your tuition will be refunded only if your place can be filled. |
