Lynn Gertenbach Workshop "Wildflowers – Paint Landscape!"

Thursday April 22 to Saturday April 24, 2010

Workshop Price: $335, nonSCAPE $370 (or join SCAPE for $35)

Time: 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

I’m delighted to announce our first 2010 workshop will be with Lynn Gertenbach!  Lynn is a wonderful California Impressionist painter.  Besides extensive schooling in the arts she has studied with greats such as Sergei Bongart, Philip Gilkerson, Bernard Dunstan and Arul Raj in India.  Her work is internationally recognized and is sought after in Europe, Japan (where she has biannual shows), and South America.  Her awards are too many to list, however include many gold medal and first place prizes in prestigious shows.  Luckily for us, she enjoys teaching!  American Artist Workshop magazine featured her in 2006.  Lynn is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America, the California Art Club (since 1975) and the Plein Air Painters of America (since 1986).

Lynn is looking forward to teaching a 3-day workshop for us, April 22-24, in which we’ll be on location, focusing on wildflower painting.  This is a wonderful opportunity for intimate instruction by this great artist.

Please notify me, Dorene White, (969-7085, 886-7479, dorene2007@lightlayer.com), if interested. If you would like to study with Lynn, but these dates do not work for you, please let me know, as I would love to have you on a list for future workshops.

David Gallup Workshop

July 14-18, 2010

Price: $550 for the 5-day workshop, which will be three days on location and 2 days in the studio. If needed, we can accommodate you if you can only do part of the workshop: $350 for 3 days, or $260 for the weekend studio.

Here’s his brief description:“I'll be taking participants to some of the world's most famous scenic locations, in the cradle of the California impressionist movement along the Santa Barbara coast. Here, we will examine the ingredients of masterful paintings, from color and composition to the intangible qualities that make up mood and message. After three days of painting on location, we will have the opportunity to spend two days in studio to apply deliberate color schemes and subtle manipulations of the work to enhance the mood, message, harmonies, and compositions of the field studies, and employ more time-intensive strategies for taking plein-air
work to a museum quality finish. Students will be taught at their own level, and based on their own goals.” David’s website is www.dgallup.com.

David Gallup Lecture "Exploring the Poetry of Light"

Hello All~

In my recent Moment of Beauty, I mentioned an upcoming lecture and discussion at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, centered around my painting, "Twice Humbled" (pictured above) and continuing with a preview of the forthcoming museum exhibition of island and marine sanctuary paintings. I didn't give the date. The event will take place on March 2, 2010 from 6:30- 8:00 p.m. Also, Filmmaker Susan Sember has now confirmed that she will be joining us with footage from the forthcoming documentary about me and my work on the islands.

This is still a free event, open to the public. I do hope to see many of you there.

Best Regards,
David

Anita Hampton Workshop
"Painting the Landscape – Capturing the Light"

May 10-12, 2010

Price: $325

The plein aire painter paints for the sheer joy of being outdoors as we listen to rustling sounds, feel the cool moist air pressing against our faces and smell inherent aromas.  We become captured by nature’s beauty drenched in light as we try to express our feelings that lure us into its majestic beauty on canvas.

Tools used by painters are addressed to help the student achieve some of these expressive goals before painting begins. The theory of landscape painting is discussed and exercised that help create a design with interest and individual expression using line, shape, value, color and textures. Individual critiques and demonstrations are given throughout this three day workshop.  We hope you can join us.

Anita is a warm, vivacious instructor.  The workshop will be in locations around Santa Barbara and run from 8 am to 4 each day, with one hour for lunch.  She is a signature member of California Art Club, Oil Painters of America and Laguna Plein Air Association.   We are starting with a cost of $325 per student, however as we increase the number of students we’ll reduce the fee for everyone.  Check anitahampton.com for more information.  Contact Dorene White dorene2007@lightlayer.com to sign up or for questions.
