GOLETA BEACH

TRAIN STATION

Most of us are familiar with Goleta Beach and the multiple painting opportunities it provides near the outlet of the Goleta Slough.  You are encouraged to come to the picnic to help celebrate another successful year for SCAPE.  Remember this is your group so come out and help make it is what ‘you’ want, or just come out and have a fun time painting together.
     Directions:  Goleta Beach Park, 5986 Sandspit Rd., Goleta 93117.
Take 101 north from town exiting on Exit 104B toward CA-217 towards the airport.  In 2 miles take Exit 1 toward Sandspit Rd.  Turn left in .2 miles left onto Sandspit Rd and then in another .2 miles turn right onto Sandspit Pl.  

The Train Station and surrounding grounds are great places to paint.  There are varied urban scenes, plenty of people milling around, and of course some great architecture as well as, yes, trains.  The station was built in the Spanish Mission Revival style in 1902.  Hope to see you there.
  Directions The Station is located in central Santa Barbara.  There is ample parking within the Station lot with the main entrance on State as the closest exit off of State by the 101 Fwy. 
From the south take exit 96B for Garden St.  Turn left onto Garden St and then right onto E Yanonali St for .4 miles arriving then at the Station, 209 State St.
From the north take Fwy 101 to Exit 97 for Castillo St.  Turn right on Castillo then left onto W. Montecito St for .3 miles then turning right onto Rey Rd for 300 feet and then turn right. 



ARROYO HONDO PRESERVE

HASKELL'S BEACH

The Arroyo Hondo Preserve is located west of Goleta, between Refugio State Beach and Gaviota State Park. It consists of 782 acres of pristine natural space offering an abundance of micro habitats that embody the Gaviota coast. With the Santa Ynez Mountains to the North and the Great Pacific Ocean to the South, enjoy a bounty of beautiful vistas offering views of the Channel Islands juxtaposed by sedimentary rocky outcroppings and towering peaks. 


  The beach is located at the Bacara Hotel.  Parking for the beach is before getting to the main lobby entrance adjacent to the tennis courts.  There is then a short walk down a path to the beach.  The Bacara is at 8301 Hollister Ave at the north end of Goleta off of Hwy 101 at exit 110 Winchester Cyn Rd.

The mouth of Tecolote Creek empties on the beach and was the site of numerous villages dating back thousands of years.  A short walk to the east will take you to Sandpiper Golf Club and gentle sloping hills.   To the west one can walk depending on the tides as far as Naples first passing Driftwood
